North Racing’s Albertson and Tobin Red Bud Race Report
7/31/08, N. Attleboro, MA - North Racing Inc.{NRi}competed in their 2nd AMA national in 2008, and placed within the top 10 and top 20 with their two privateer riders in the MX division. NRi owner David Briggs hired young guns Jimmy Albertson and Kyle Tobin to race Factory Connection suspended TLR modified Honda 450’s for selected east coast rounds.

Saturday qualifying went well as Tobin and Albertson easily qualified into Sundays MX program. Jimmy and Kyle  “timed in” at 16th and 20th respectively at the beautiful Red Bud facility that neither rider had ever raced previously. Sunday’s morning qualifying was going to be an opportunity to improve their lap times and use Saturday’s track experience to garner a better placement on the starting grid.

On Sunday Albertson picked up the pace and recorded the 10th fastest lap time to grab him a solid gate pick. Tobin had encountered engine troubles during the first timed practice, and would have to settle for 26th gate pick, as he would miss the 2nd practice. Scott Tobin {Kyle’s dad} got our “Mechanics Award” as he performed an engine swap in time for the main event.

The 1st moto put Albertson about 14th off the start and crossing in 11th on the first lap. He would finish behind Jeff Alessi for 8th position at the checkers. Tobin started and finished in 15th for the first moto.

Albertson had a great jump on the 2nd moto restart and would hold down second position behind Stewart as they headed toward the stepdown double. Short and Ferry muscled their way by quickly. The race long battle with Jeff Alessi would determine Top Privateer Honors for the day depending on who crossed the finish line first. Jimmy lost out by 1 second to the younger Alessi at the finish, and that would give Albertson 7th overall for the weekend. Kyle rounded the first lap in 18th and would run as high as 14th until tiring later in the moto and finishing 18th.

Coming into Red Bud, Tobin commented, “My goal for this weekend is a top 20 overall”. Kyle achieved that with an 18th overall, and now has set his sights on a Top 15 for Budds Creek. When asked what it will take to reach his new goal, he responded, “more race experience and better conditioning”.

Albertson states, “staying healthy and getting top ten results are my main goals at this time”.  Jimmy’s 7th overall finish was his first top ten at the national level, and he seems very optimistic about repeating those results at Budd’s Creek.

Team Owner David Briggs was extremely pleased with his two young recruits with hopes of continued success for NRi and their sponsors. Briggs states, “This is very much a team effort, and being an underdog to the factory guys just makes it that much more challenging”. David wanted to give thanks to Factory Connection, Dunlop, Torco, TLR Performance , K&N, Pro Taper, and Cycra. He mentions, huge props go out to his mechanics’ Gregg Albertson and Scott Tobin for their performance.
