North Racing’s Unadilla MX Race Report
7/31/08, N. Attleboro, MA - Round 8 at Unadilla would be the 4th race of the AMA series for North Racing Inc. Team NRi owner David Brigg’s has been gaining momentum with his two young guns making every main event thus far. Kyle Tobin has placed in the top twenty while Jimmy Albertson has placed 7th and  8th  overall in the two previous nationals under the NRi canopy.

Honda 450 racers Albertson and Tobin would head into the Saturday qualifier on their Factory Connection suspended machines with a higher confidence level as they gain more experience at the top level of the sport. Tobin was using Saturday qualifying to make a few suspension changes with spring rates and would actually shave a second off his first practice, even as the track got rougher. He ended 30th quickest and into Sunday’s program.

Answer Racing’s #702 Albertson went right to work in the first practice on his first trip to Unadilla knocking down the 5th fastest lap time and fastest privateer. Showing the first practice was no fluke, Albertson logged 6th fastest and would finish 6th overall in Saturdays qualifying.

Sunday morning arrived with some wet weather and there would ultimately be only one practice session for gate pick. Tobin’s FC suspension adjustments paid off, and Kyle logged in the top 20 for gate pick on Sunday with an 18th fastest lap time on his Torco Fuels Honda .

Albertson would pickup where he left off on Saturday and would put his DR. D.{Dubach Racing} Honda450 into 7th position for a strong gate pick. That would place him 2nd privateer in qualifying times behind Cooper.

Main Event: Tobin would start out midpack in the first moto and finish out in 18th position picking 3 more national AMA points. 2nd moto Kyle would be caught up in a pileup and work his way back on through the extreme track conditions to 28th position and give him 25th overall for the weekend.

Main Event: Albertson would get a decent start and round the first lap in 13th position. He would loose a position to Hamlin and move back to 14th. Racing stayed very close as there were not very many position changes on the circuit. When the two lap board came out,  Summey and Albertson were gaining ground on Boni and Alessi. The #24 and #702 would close the 5 second gap in a late moto charge and over take the #801 and #109 Hondas at the finish line. 12th would be the moto 1 finish.

Moto 2 would see Albertson get a great jump and come out around 6th place off the start. He would end up going down on the first lap and round the first lap in tenth position. Jimmy would remain in 10th at the finish of moto 2. Albee’s overall finish would be 9th on the day and his third top ten in three weeks.

After the race, Jimmy felt that after falling in 6th place, he just wanted to ride conservatively and stay on two wheels    and gather another top ten overall. He stated, “My speed is there in practice, and I just need to loosen up and race the way I practice. I know I need good overall finishes, so it makes it hard ride the way I really know how to.”

North Racing’s next round will be Southwick 338.
